| The Rossendale Valley Motorbike Show grew to become Europe's largest one day motorcycle event. For 15 years it filled the streets of Rawtenstall with bikes and attracted up to 65,000 people to the area.
The true ethos of the original show, was to promote biking, the Rossendale area and to raise as much money as possible for local charities. As the bike show become more successful, the organisation was taken over by business and political interests and the true bikers lost control of the show.
At that point the bike show became a "trade show spectacle", and was no longer focused on the bikers and their lifestyle. Instead the focus changed to the traders, and to the commercial aspects of the motorcycle industry.
Once the needs of the commercial and political interests were satisfied, and as the show fell out of their favour they abandoned the show leaving the few remaining bikers floundering under the weight of such a large event, and the show unfortunately had to be closed!
In press statements the organisers stated that the show was "too successful" and outgrew its original objectives with health and safety becoming a "nightmare", so now due to over commercialisation and politics, unfortunately the original Rossendale Valley Motorbike Show in Rawtenstall is no longer running.
The new Bike Show in the Rossendale Valley area is named the North Manchester, Custom and Classic Bike Show. It is being held for the first year on the 26th of September 2010 at the Ramsbottom Cricket Club.
